What is DinoCHUMs East Ren?
DinoCHUMs East Ren is a family friendly, app-based Treasure Hunt to be held in Cowan Park and is part of the wider Choose How U Move East Ren programme (for further information on this see below). The Treasure Hunt is a free initiative designed to help you get your family active, learn something new and be entered into a prize draw to win some fantastic prizes. What is Choose How U Move East Ren?
The Choose How U Move programme is a free to join rewards programme designed to help you get active, earn rewards and support local traders and charities. It rewards sustainable travel for commuting and leisure trips as well as encourage regular, healthy activity amongst people who live and work in East Renfrewshire. The programme will run from Thursday 7th October until Wednesday 20th October 2021. Visit the website for more information.
How has DinoCHUMs and Choose How U Move East Ren been funded?
Choose How U Move East Ren is funded by Paths for All’s Smarter Choices, Smarter Places Open Fund, and by Sustrans’ Spaces for People programme. Grant-funded by Transport Scotland, the Paths for All programme aims to increase active and sustainable travel throughout Scotland. Sustrans’ Spaces for People programme, grant-funded by the Scottish Government, offers funding and support to make it safer for people who choose to walk, wheel or cycle for essential trips and exercise during COVID-19.
Why should I take part in DinoCHUMs East Ren?
BetterPoints is an award-winning app that encourages people to get active by walking, running, wheeling or cycling, for commuting or leisure. Taking part in this Treasure Hunt enables you and your family to get out and enjoy Cowan Park this autumn, whilst undertaking a fun and educational activity and getting the chance to be entered into prize draws to win various prizes. As well as increasing your dinosaur knowledge it will also potentially boost your morale and activity levels, which will contribute to your overall health and wellbeing.
How can I get involved?
- If you are already taking part in Choose How U Move East Ren, you will be sent an in-app invitation to join the DinoCHUMs Treasure Hunt in advance of it starting on 7th October 2021.
- If you are not yet taking part in Choose How U Move East Ren, download the free BetterPoints app from the App store or Google Play.
- Register on the app.
- Join DinoCHUMs East Ren from 7th October 2021 from the list of available ‘Challenges.’
Instructions for taking part in the virtual hunt
- When you arrive at Cowan Park, open your app, click the 'PLAY' button in the top right-hand corner of the screen then select 'WALK’ to start. This will give you your first set of instructions and clues.
- You’ll walk around the park, following the clues to find your ten Dino friends (called DinoCHUMs).
- Keep your app open and on the timeline - you may been to refresh this page.
- You will receive a push message when you find each DinoCHUM, this message will include the DinoCHUM’s name and a fact about the dinosaur.
- To find the next DinoCHUM you will tap a message to find your next clue.
- As you walk around the park and discover the virtual Dino treasure you will earn BetterTickets. Each ticket earned will give you one entry into our weekly prize draw or the grand prize draw.
- When you finish, or have found all the DinoCHUMs please remember to press ‘Complete.’

How can I win a prize?
In the DinoCHUMs challenge (7th October until 20th October 2021) you can earn prize draw entries as follows:
Taking Part in the DinoCHUMs Treasure Hunt
To take part you will need access to a smart phone and to be in the location of Cowan Park (G78 2RN). Whilst in the Park you can undertake the Treasure Hunt by searching for our ten DinoCHUMs by following the instructions on the app and solving the clues. For each Dino you find you will earn one ticket in the daily prize draw. You will need to find all ten Dinos hidden in the park, including the EastRen-A-Saurus Rex, to gain you an additional entry into the Grand Prize draw which will be announced on week commencing 25th October 2021.
How many times can I take part?
Participants can take part once per day across the Treasure Hunt period and can earn tickets for the prize draws (including the daily and the Grand Prize Draw) once per day during daylight hours. The park isn't lit once the sun goes down, and so there won't be any DinoCHUMs around after dark.

Given the current situation with COVID-19, is it safe to take part in DinoCHUMs?
Rest assured that all the activities promoted as part of this programme fall in line with current safety recommendations and advice regarding COVID-19. Walking, running, wheeling, cycling and taking part in this initiative can be done on an individual basis or as a family with adherence to social distancing guidelines.
